Edible Castle Episodes 4-10

On behalf of me and Andy, I'm finally able to add some worthwhile news here. We will be posting 7 episodes over on our site and here on Newgrounds, one a day for the next week.

This is also a special occasion as the 10th episode will mark the END OF THE FIRST SERIES OF EDIBLE CASTLE! And POSSIBLY the END OF THE SERIES, FULL STOP! CAPITAL LETTERS!

the 10th episode is ultra special and will contain animated gold from the likes of:

The Swain (Blockhead)

Mike Parker (College University)

Chase Suddarth (Tomorrow's Nobodies)

Ego Raptor (Awesome series)

Lazy Muffin (Nameless)

Dim (of Super Flash Bros)

Tom Fulp (of Newgrounds)

Whose part is in that screenshot? It looks kinda like the style of "Chase 'n' Pacman", but I'm not entirely sure.

With Cuboy's unique style, and 3D aspects (including the rotating box of scene change) is the entire thing still made in Flash?

If so, that is an amazing example of both incredible animation, and ridculous amounts of time spent on that movie!

But seriously, is that all FBFed out in Flash?

yeah it's all drawn frame by frame. Not really any 3D in it. The cube spinning is, I think, only about 10 frames on repeat.

If you were to make a 5 minute Edible Castle episode, how long would that take? Then, how long would it take to do a 5 minute Cuboy episode?
My guess is Cuboy is close to twice as long. Is that a fair estimate?

when we first started the Edible Castle shorts we set out to make them in as little time as possible. They were meant to give a little variety inbetween Cuboy productions. That's why I decided to go with eyeless characters and only 2 mouth states - open and close. It's also why in most episodes there's usually just the 1 setting/background.

Cuboy does take longer to animate. The lip syncing takes longer - there's eye movements to be done - and in general it's just way more involved. There's more scenery, theres more sound effects, and the scenes are thought out more thoroughly in regards to layout and visuals.

takes about 3-5 days to make a 2 min EC episode. takes about a month and a half to make an 8 minute cuboy episode. But you've got to take into considering that 90% of the EC graphics are waiting for me in my EC library before I even start an episode. that cuts down the time a lot.
